The Authority Holds a Meeting with Stakeholders Concerning
the Use of Media During Election
The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority held a meeting with stakeholders concerning the use of media during the 4th upcoming countrywide election. The main objectives of the meeting were to discuss on the issue such as the establishment of election Desk, the preparations of technical Criteria and standards for the programs prepared by political parties. During the meeting, Mr. Desta Tesfaw, Director General of the Authority has reminded the participants about the lessons from the two recently held elections so that the Authority would try its best to make the 4th upcoming election free, fair and democratic.
Ato Desta Tesfaw Why the transmission of the contesting political parties’ program is restricted only in the night time? Who is responsible for the various error created due to the program? And other questions were raised from the participants. Concerning the transmission time, the director general responded that the media should work together with the contesting political parties whenever there is a discomfort about the time allotted. And regarding the errors, the media stations will take the responsibility but the contesting political parties will not also be free as well. Go Top
The 5th Training offered in Bahir Dar
The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority offered training to Reporters, Program Producers and Officials of the Mass Media in Amhara Region for 5 consecutive days from January 11th to 16th, 2010. The training focused on strengthening the capacity of those professionals of the media so as to perform their day to day activity effectively.Legal framework of Mass Media in Ethiopia,The training focused on strengthening the capacity of those professionals of the media so as to perform their day to day activity effectively. Legal framework of Mass Media in Ethiopia,the Role of Media during Election, Journalism Ethics,Program Standard and
Developmental Journalism were the major issues addressed through the training. More than 80 professionals including Director General of the Amhara Mass Media Agency participated in the training.Go Top
A National Dialogue on Community Broadcasting Services
held in Addis Ababa
The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority has held a National Dialogue to create public awareness on Community Broadcasting Service for two consecutive days in Addis Ababa from December 31st, 2009 to 1st January 2010. The dialogue organized by the Authority in Collaboration with UNESCO and ICTAD was made to focus on creating public awareness on how to establish and run a community broadcasting service so as to be used as a source of information to the community especially living in the remote areas of the country.The Authority has called for a consensus understanding on the services across the country so that it will be possible to have at least one community broadcasting service station in each community found in the country disclosed by Desta Tesfaw, Director General of Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority. Having this understanding, participants were gathered from every corner of the country and took part in the discussion so as to disseminate the information gained from the session to others
who had not been there. Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority has issued licenses for seven Community Radio Broadcasters so far. Go Top
