March eight was celebrated at the conference hall of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority here Friday with various informative and entertaining events.

Opening the celebration Ayalew Getaneh, Mass Media Expansion Work Process Director said, women that make up half of the Ethiopian population need to be respected and empowered .Of course they used to suffer from lots of cultural and economic influences, he said adding, however, that thanks to their continued and persistent struggle, they have achieved their rights.
Presenting concept paper on women’s challenges and achievements, Dureti Tadesse and Metagese Samuel event coordinators and experts with the authority noted that March Eight not only has heralded the dawn of women’s emancipation but also brought them together under an umbrella for common cause.
“Now women all over the world are enjoying immense social, economical, political and democratic rights. And as such we would like to congratulate you all for your assistance and support to the emancipation and empowerment of women,” they said.
Coffee ceremony, loaves of bread, photograph displays and documentary film projection, poems and funny question- answer competitions must have added color and flavor to the celebration.
Authority women task force in cooperation with human resource management and Development work process has organized the day that was celebrated nationwide under:- women’s organized participation and movement indispensable for the success of the governments five year growth and transformation plan.
March 8 was celebrated for 35th consecutive time nationwide, 100th internationally, it was learnt.
Closing the event Leul Geberu, Director Information & Public Relations Work Process remarked: no doubt the event was wonderful. Yet we need to empower women. And the empowerment of women means the successful accomplishment of the government five year growth and Transformation Plan, he stressed.
