Ghion Hotel: - The Ethiopian Broad Casting Authority in cooperation with Peace Family and Media society organized a day long workshop on community radio for House of People’s Representative Council members.
Opening the workshop council Culture, Tourism, and Mass Media Standing Committee chairwomen Rabiya Esa said that creating awareness on the benefits and advantages of community radio is tantamount important to getting the message across the people at the grass roots level .
No doubt even if the community themselves are the major actors , MPs, however , have bigger role to play in convincing and mobilizing the community toward establishing community radios .If governmental and nongovernmental organizations lend a hand one way or the other that would also be more advantageous .
Ayele Eshetu, ,a private broadcast consultant , Desta Asefaw, authority director and Shiferaw Solomon , colleague presented papers on community radio in that order inspiring the MPs for further action thereby.
Mps did not only raised dozens of questions relating to the challenges and opportunities of establishing community radios, but also vowed to do all their level best upon returning to their constituencies this summer to mobilize and disseminate the establishment of community radios across the country . Now we have understood that community radios are multi faceted, multi –diminished, they reiterated.
