Some ninety Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority staff unanimously decided here Tuesday to donate their salary and buy government bonds in an effort to lend a hand for the construction of the much awaited 5,250 MW Grand Millennium Dam to be built on the Nile River.
In a five point resolution the workers issued following a half day panel discussion held at the conference hall of the Authority, they decided not only to donate their one month salary but also to buy government bonds meant for same purpose as much as they can.
“We shall do whatever we can at our disposal for the construction the dam,” they said adding that each and every capable citizens need to stand in unison and contribute their share for such important and historical project.

Moderating the panel Leul Gebru, Information and Public Relations Work Process Director with the Authority reiterated that no one can deny the immense social, economic and political significance the dam will have for the people of Ethiopia up on completion. This is not to mention the mutual benefits that the riparian states also enjoys out of its construction, he said and went on to state that we as the staff of the EBA have at least the moral obligation to take the imitative to contribute one way or the other for the realization the grand dam to be built on the Nile river.
The dam, which is part and parcel of the government five year Growth and Transformation Plan, according to him, not only help accelerate the governments Agricultural led Industrialization Strategy, but also doubles in folds the country’s energy capacity.
For Abiyu Mekonnen and Metagese Samuel, experts with the Authority, the construction of the dam has lots of messages to convey to the peoples of Ethiopia as well as to the international community. And as such we are ready to contribute our share financially and pay all the necessary sacrifice towards the successful accomplishment of the project.
Salini construttori has taken over the task of constructing this largest a hydropower plasnt which has a capacity of holding 63 billion cubic meter water in the Benshagul-Gumuz state, some 20kms east of the Sudanese border. |
