Awareness Workshop on community radio conducted

Jinca:- the Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority(EBA) in collaboration with Peace Family and Media Association  organized here on   august three 2011 a two day  awareness raising  workshop on community  radio for people of   south  omo  zone  at Orit Hotel.
Opening the workshop south omo zone culture, tourism and communication Office head, Shegutae Bashae said that the objective of the workshop is to facilitate the expansion of community radios by raising the awareness of pastoralists on the concepts and benefits of the same.
Community radio, as a non for profit media, is not only   established and run by the community themselves, but is also designed to fill the information gap in the remotest parts of the country.
Even though governmental and nongovernmental organizations share the responsibility   , basically it is   the duty and responsibility of the community themselves to establish and run community radios.
Among others, community radio, which believed to be set up easily,   help improve   husbandry, grazing lands and avoid traditional practices.
Ayle Eshetu, Shifraw Solomon, Gezaw Tesefaye, Girma Kebede, and Saba Feseha, experts in the field   have reportedly presented various papers related to the subject matter under discussion and responded latter to questions raised by participants.

Participants who were dawn from sections of the community, pledged, upon returning to their constituencies to their share experiences to their compatriots and establish as many community radios as possible for the benefits of their people .
