The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority (EBA) was established according to the Broadcasting Proclamation No 178/1999.

This Proclamation has been superseded by Proclamation No 533/2007 to ensure proper and fair utilisation of the limited resource and public property of radio frequency available in the country. In addition it has been found essential to clearly define the rights and obligations of broadcasters who undertake broadcasting in Ethiopia.

The statutory objective of the Authority is to ensure the expansion of a highly standard, prompt and reliable broadcasting service that can contribute to political, social and economic development of the country.
